Work Ethics for
organizational success.
The concept of
work ethic has so many variations that it can be used to explain a variety of
observable societal developments. Several authors have utilized the Protestant
work ethic to explain not only capitalism but also sexual repression,
ecological catastrophe and destruction, a spirit of violence, and militarism,
as noted by Furnham (1990).
The overwhelming
quantity of elements in this comparison of work ethic studies is puzzling. With
little cross-disciplinary research, each discipline—history, sociology,
psychology, economics, and others—tends to focus on the aspect that is most
interesting from that particular angle.
A value or idea
that either (a) serves as a conscious guide to conduct or (b) is merely
suggested in observable attitudes and behavior is referred to as a work ethic,
according to Siegel (1983, p. 29). It is easier to explore significant
disparities in the workplace when work ethic is framed as an individual
distinction as opposed to a belief system held by the entire population. The
breadth of this technique may also considerably increase the research of the
greater population if and when commonalities are found.
Additionally,
senior management is in charge of fostering a culture of ethics within a firm,
and they need to have this mindset that ethics can and should be efficiently
handled. By creating a formal ethics management process, integrating ethics
into its strategy, and choosing ethical leaders to set the bar high, senior
management should make a deliberate decision to strengthen the organization's
ethical health (Plant, K., 2008).

or output of the job. Respect for one's job and workplace inevitably leads to
increased productivity. They make greater use of the company's resources,
respect time, perform at higher levels, and drive the organization forward.
